Prestigious award for EES President Bernhard Friedmann

For his services to the construction of Europe, Professor Dr. Bernhard Friedmann, was awarded with the Gold Medal of the Foundation of MERITE EUROPEEN. The Merit was presented by the President of the European Parliament, Professor Dr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, during a joint meeting of the European Economic Senate e. V. (EES) with the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE) in Brussels. In his speech, Prof. Pöttering stressed that Bernhard Friedmann, both as member and President of the European Court of Auditors as well later as President of the European Economic Senate always had a view of the whole.
The enlargement of the European Union to the East was the logical continuation of the reunification of Germany for him, for which he was fighting for with great engagement. Back in the early 90s, he explained, in almost all parliaments of Central and Eastern Europe and in conversations with their leaders the reform process that the EU co-financed. The experience he gained at that time he benefits in his present job as president of the European Economic Senate.
