Statement by EES President Dr Ingo Friedrich, July 16th, 2025

Brosius-Gersdorf: Less self-interest, please, and more of a common good.

If you are a candidate for Germany's highest court, you are no longer just another private citizen who can lament an unfair press. No, you then have a duty to the state, and you have to ask yourself: "What does the good of the state require of me?" And the answer to that is clear: Before the entire nation is divided into supporters and opponents of me, I will draw the conclusion and resign from this appointment. In the past, this would have been called decency and Prussian duty, and it would have been expected of all citizens.

Dr. Ingo Friedrich
