EES Live (05/2025)

EES Live, Tuesday, May 6, 2025:  “On the chancellor election and Coalition Agreement (GROKO) and report on the results of the EPP summit in Valencia”

Our monthly EES Briefing (“EES Live”) could not be more fitting, as the election of the new Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany will take place next Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The coalition agreement is in place, the CDU/CSU ministers and state secretaries have been named and the SPD will announce its government members on Monday.

Hopes and expectations for the GROKO and therefore also for Germany are high. This was also demonstrated by the summit meeting of the European People's Party (EPP) in Valencia from April 28-30, 2025 on the occasion of the election conference there. Rarely has a speech been as celebrated as that of Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz. Europe needs a reinvigorated Germany with the willingness to take on more leadership responsibility. His clear announcement and call to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to reduce bureaucracy also demonstrates the desired change in policy.

In our EES Live, we want to present the plans of the GROKO and discuss the challenges and also inform you about the results of the EPP Summit.
