EES Live (10/2024) - The Digital Senators' Briefing

“Cybercrime - An underestimated danger for companies and how to protect yourself”

Cybercrime has many faces and knows no boundaries. Examples include

  • Unauthorised access to data in a system or on a computer (Hacking).
  • Theft of user data, including login information and credit card numbers (Phishing).
  • Malware that locks the computer or encrypts data on it, such as images, files or emails. The perpetrators then blackmail their victims (Ransomware). If you don't pay, the only solution is often to delete and reinstall your computer.
  • Identity theft.
  • Installation of malicious software on computers, servers, clients or networks without the user's knowledge, deliberately causing damage or even paralysing the entire infrastructure (Malware).
  • Internet attacks on the performance of networks or websites.

Anyone can be a victim, whether private, corporate, public organisations or critical infrastructure. Cybercrime poses a significant threat, especially to the economy. And Russia's war against Ukraine has exacerbated the situation even further.

Anyone who has ever been the victim of a cyber-attack knows how annoying it is. And it's not just about the time you lose, but also the economic damage if, for example, you can no longer produce or have to restore systems due to a business interruption. Not to mention the damage to your image.

So how can you protect yourself and how can you insure yourself? These questions will be addressed at the upcoming EES Live.

We are delighted that Dr Andreas Fürst, Allianz AG, MidCorp Cyber, Cyber & IT division, and Moritz Diehl, NIUN GmbH, specialising in cyber security and AI, will be speaking to us on this important topic.

Our thanks go to Senator Thorsten Schohmann, who came up with the idea for this cybercrime special.
